Inspiring First-Generation College Students to Beat the Odds

To better prepare first-generation students for college, Spotify teamed up with former first lady Michelle Obama for Beat The Odds Summit.

Mrs. Obama and executives from Spotify—including Troy Carter, Vice President of Creator Services, and Danielle Lee, VP of Partner Solutions—shared their experiences of overcoming obstacles and the lessons they learned during their personal and professional journeys.

Hosted at Dunbar High School in Washington D.C., the summit included college transition workshops, a panel discussing the role of music in culture and community, as well as a performance by R&B artist Kevin Ross.
