Encouraging Parents and Young Children to Share in the Power of Song

Encouraging Parents and Young Children to Share in the Power of Song

Millions of kids start school behind their peers. To better understand the role that music can play in the social, emotional, and language development of children, Spotify partnered with early childhood organizations Too Small To Fail, ZERO to THREE, and Vroom to develop new playlists for our Kids & Family category.

Voiced by artists and celebrity parents, each playlist encouraged parents to sing more with their children. Talent included: Fantasia, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Wiz Khalifa, Tyler Perry, Juanes, Diego Torres, Frankie J, Laurie Berkner, Busy Philipps, and Ashley Williams.

We also provided grants to the Family Independence Initiative for the creation of group singing and music events. In a subsequent study of these groups, it was found that parents who engaged with our Kids & Family playlists were more likely to spend time interacting, singing, and reading with their kids.
